QUALITY SYSTEM AND MEASUREMENT ACCURACY

SEVERN ENGINEERING COMPANY

Severn Engineering Company has in place an extensive quality system that complies with ISO 9002 as well as several other quality requirements. We are not certified to any of them due to our small size and limited resources. Severn Engineering Co. is dedicated to working to the highest quality standards. A Quality Manual and supporting Specifications cover all aspects of the operations. The operations and specifications are compliant with the following Standards:

MIL-STD-45662A
ANSI/NCSL Z540-I-1-1999
ISO 9002
ANSI/ASQC Q 9002-1994
ISO/IEC 17025

Permeability Conformance to:

MIL-I-17214B, ASTM A342/A342M-04

No Technical Society or Government Agency has established permeability standards. The National Bureau of Standards (NBS), now NIST, no longer makes permeability measurements on feebly magnetic materials. The standards used to calibrate the Severn Gage Instruments were measured periodically by NBS over 25 years with no significant change in measured values.

Ferrite conformance to
ASTM A 799/A 799M-04, ANSI/AWS 4.2M/A4.2:1997

Concerning the margin of error in measurement of permeability using the Severn Permeability Indicator, calibrated inserts have a bias of plus or minus 1% at the low range (1.01 Mu - 1.15 Mu) and within plus or minus 5% at the high range (1.2 - 6.0 Mu) relative to the standards. This is according to ASTM A342-95 using Test Method 3.
The standards used in calibrating the inserts were measured by the National Institute of Standards and Technology using Test Method A 341 . No significant changes were observed between 1952 and 1976.
The margin of error of Inserts used in the Ferrite Type I (measures % Ferrite) is plus or minus 5.0%.
All inserts for the Ferrite Type II, which measures in Ferrite Number (FN) have a tolerance of plus or minus 0.5FN for values up to 10.0 FN,
Plus or minus 1.0 FN for values between 10.0 FN and15.0 FN,
and plus or minus 1.3 FN for values over 15.0 FN.
